Flux Protection: Flux is an indispensable protective material in submerged arc welding. During welding, the flux melts and forms slag, which covers the weld surface, effectively isolating it from air and preventing the weld metal from being oxidized and nitrided. Simultaneously, the flux also generates a protective gas, protecting the arc area from the intrusion of outside air. Choosing the right flux is crucial; it must be matched to the welding wire and the material of the workpiece to ensure effective protection and weld quality.
Equipment Inspection and Maintenance: The stability and performance of welding equipment directly affect welding quality. Therefore, welding equipment must be inspected regularly, including key components such as the wire feeding mechanism and contact tip. Wire feeding must be stable and uniform to avoid welding defects caused by poor wire feeding. Excessive wear of the contact tip will affect welding stability and protection effectiveness, and it must be replaced promptly.
Environmental Control: The welding environment has a significant impact on welding quality. The welding area should be kept dry and clean, avoiding operation in harsh environments such as strong winds and high humidity. Strong winds can disperse protective gases and molten slag, reducing the effectiveness of protection; a humid environment may cause defects such as porosity in the weld, affecting weld quality.
Personnel Protection and Safe Operation: Operators must wear appropriate protective equipment, such as face shields and gloves, to prevent injury from arc light and spatter. They must also adhere to safe operating procedures to ensure the safe conduct of the welding process.
Welding Parameter Control: In addition to the above protective measures, welding parameters, such as welding current, voltage, and welding speed, must be strictly controlled. These parameters have a significant impact on welding quality and protection effectiveness and must be set appropriately based on the welding wire and the material of the workpiece.
